Multi-Hyphenate

Focusing on the idea of the "multi-hyphenate," or a person with multiple professions, skills, or labels, this piece is intended to showcase the relationship between the individual and the labels they once held. Throughout our lives, whether by our efforts or by the influence of the world around us, each person acquires multiple labels, develops multiple skills, and works in multiple professions. Whether these classifications are positive or negative in connotation, they were all seemingly “fitting” at the time of their christening. Each human is not without their flaws, and as damning as some of these terms may seem, they are just as much a part of what makes the “artist” a multi-hyphenate as the labels his accomplishments have granted him. The labels have been created in PLA material to reference refrigerator magnets and the way many of us learned words in our youth. Totaling 68 different pieces, the interchangeable beads are an amalgamation of everything those around him have labeled the artist at various points in life.
